Hi Everyone and Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend. After the week I had, I was treated to some unseasonably warm temps and sunshine. I took full advantage of it and treated myself to a little TLC and even got outside for a much needed vitamin D and mood boost! Now this time of year can be hell on a girl’s skin. I swear, every time I hear my furnace kick on, it’s sucking the moisture out of my skin ~ not to mention the cold temps and the wind. So I started the weekend off by making up some of my favorite body scrubs and planned a little mini spa time. Now I would like to share with you my steps to some at home skin care!
Here are two of my three favorite scrubs. All three are coconut oil based. Coconut oil is a solid oil and is amazing. All three are also sugar based. These two that are pictured are made with white sugar. The third (not pictured) is brown sugar based. Sometimes when I make these, I put them in pretty mini jars. However, I prefer to use the mini containers like the ones pictured. They seal closed and if dropped in the bathroom they won’t break ~ safety first!!!
The basic recipes are pretty simple. One part coconut oil (in it’s solid state) and one part sugar and mixed with a hand mixer. I like to mix it quite a bit ~ whip it nice & fluffy! The next part is really up to you. The red colored one has essential oil and coloring added. For the one shown, peppermint. I have made this with eucalyptus which is great during cold & flu season. I have also made it with rose oil and lavender. Now you can add coloring to but I warn you, some can stain. I prefer to omit it. The other one is a grapefruit scrub. I love this one!! Instead of oils, add a little bit of grapefruit juice and some zest. Seriously, this one is refreshing! The one not shown (sorry!) is my personal fav. Coconut oil and brown sugar. I do not add any oils or anything other than a dollop of honey right before I get in the shower. Those three ingredients smell amazing and my skin is left so soft.
Now that you have exfoliated and got rid of the dead skin, it’s time to moisturize. Really, it’s always time to moisturize. I do at least twice a day – usually more this time of year. Again, your choice of moisturizer is up to you. Honestly, the single most important thing you can do for your skin starts before you ever step in the shower. Water ~ drink lots of water!!
Smooth sexy skin is a must for every girl! Nothing feels or looks better! Even if you only get to get your “girl on” on occasion, you will love how your skin feels when you slip into those pretty things.
Until next time!
Hugs,
Ms. Kay Marie

Ms Kay Marie- Coconut oil is so wonderful for so many things! My current scrub is coconut oil, my used coffee grounds, and organic cane sugar. The sugar is a bit brown, and harsh, so I whirl it in my Ninja a bit to make the crystals smaller. I spread the coffee grounds out to dry on a jelly roll sheet in a low oven and then run them thru my Ninja after the sugar, then combine them all. I find it easier to liquify the coconut oil a bit, and then refrigerate it after everything is stirred in, but I’m definitely going to try the hand mixer on my next batch! It’s such a treat to have all this available to us, and obviously the new girls on the block need to learn too!
Thanks for sharing! Stephanie
Homemade scrubs are fun, and pretty practical considering the arm and a leg most products cost when it comes to beauty. Funny you are covering this, I had already planned to touch on it in the next few months with the next Amber Academy series that’s starting in a week or so. Don’t worry, I won’t do your recipes, Miss Kaymarie. And I’ll make sure to link them back here so they can see yours, too!
Not every skin care product needs to be gender specific, however, it is necessary that any product a person use be formulated specifically for their skin type. And this homemade scrub sounds like it helps combat oil, and you can use it as an astringent or facial moisturizer that is lightweight and oil-free.
